Prague - The City Hall of Prague 8 is planning a complete reconstruction of the square at the C line metro station Ládví. The first phase of the works could begin next year. CTK was informed today by Mayor Roman Petrus (ČSSD). A new pavement will be laid in the square, benches and bins will be added, along with greenery. According to the plan, a market should also be established. The overall costs are estimated by the city hall to be around 30 million CZK, and the work is expected to be completed in 2018.
A transformation is also expected in the rectangular area opposite the C line metro station Ládví. "It should be kept clean so that temporary sports facilities can be set up here, or concerts and other cultural events can take place," said Petrus. There will also be a place for a Christmas tree and a new water feature. The entire area will be newly paved.
On the left side of the metro station, a permanent market should be established. It will look like the one currently at Tylovo náměstí in Prague 2 - the stalls will be foldable, and when the market is not in operation, they will be folded, allowing people to sit on the crates.
In the area between the department stores, a so-called Paradise Courtyard will be created. The current concrete flower pots will be removed, and the plants will be newly placed at sidewalk level. "In this part, it will also be possible to sit. We would like to enhance the space to encourage local entrepreneurs to set up outdoor seating areas for cafés and similar establishments," described the mayor.
The entire square will see an increase in greenery, including the planting of a new linden tree, and more benches and bins will be added. Seating will also be possible on the steps near the cultural house, and benches and trees will also be added near the bus stop, where an earth embankment will be created with sunken stone benches at the front.
The leadership of the city district would like to announce a tender this year to find a company that will renovate the square. "I would like to get this done by the end of the year. If successful, construction could theoretically begin in April or May of next year," said Petrus. The construction is to be divided into two phases. It has not yet been decided which part of the area will be worked on first, according to Petrus. "However, there will certainly be two phases; we cannot close the entire area for two years," he said.
It is not yet clear how much the renovation will cost exactly. The city hall estimates about 30 million crowns. "We have the money for the renovation, but I will also negotiate with the capital city, which could financially contribute," said the mayor.
