Prague - Prague 8 should sign an agreement with the Order of the Knights of the Cross in about two weeks, which will allow for the reconstruction of the area around the Ládví metro station on line C. Roman Petrus (ČSSD), the mayor, told ČTK in an interview today. The city hall needs consent to remove part of the extensive land, which is under dispute between Prague and the Order as part of restitution claims. If Prague 8 cannot reach an agreement with the Order, it will only perform repairs in the area around the station, which is permitted by law. A newly refurbished square, space for markets, or a fountain is planned for Ládví.

The city hall needs the Order's consent to obtain all the necessary stamps from the authorities. The dispute concerns the land that lies north of the metro station. If the Order agrees to the removal, the city district will assist with the renovation of the parish in Bohnice. "If everything goes well, the work could begin before the summer," said Petrus.

If no agreement is reached, the city hall has a partial repair plan prepared. "We could, for example, re-pave the area near the metro or adjust the greenery. However, we would only have a fragment of the overall plan and would likely only complete about 40 percent of the intended modifications. I am convinced that it would be better to do at least something than to wait for the outcome of the restitution dispute in the future," said Petrus.

A large new square will be created at the metro station, where cultural events will be held, along with a smaller square or space for a market. A fountain will be built, new greenery will be planted, and a memorial to the architect of the adjacent housing estate, Viktor Tuček, will be erected. In the first phase of reconstruction, a large square will be established. The costs of the reconstruction have not yet been determined, but the city hall preliminarily estimates around 40 million crowns excluding VAT.
