Prague – The Prague City Council plans to build a new building for the Waldorf High School and residential buildings with up to 200 apartments on the plots near Radlická Street in Jinonice. The outgoing council of the capital approved a memorandum with Prague 5 on Monday. According to it, the municipal district will transfer a smaller part of the land it has been entrusted with to the city. Construction could begin after 2025 according to the approved document, with the Prague Development Company (PDS) in charge of the preparation.
The Waldorf High School, which uses the same-named alternative educational method, is established by the capital city and currently resides in a building in Opatov, which is reportedly too small according to the memorandum. The location in Jinonice is also advantageous according to the approved document, as there is a Waldorf Primary School near the planned new building.
In addition to the high school, the council plans to construct municipal rental apartments on the extensive plots located east of Radlická Street near the Jinonice metro station. A change to the zoning plan will be necessary for the construction, which the city is preparing and is expected to be approved at the beginning of next year.
The project will be overseen by PDS, which is a contributory organization established by the city to prepare housing projects on municipal land. "The first step from PDS will be the preparation of a study of the entire wider area as a basis for specifying and defining the task for the tender for an architectural competition or for individual housing construction projects and the high school," states the document.
PDS is currently preparing constructions at more than a dozen locations in the metropolis, where up to 8000 municipal rental apartments could be built in the future. A designer has already been selected for some smaller projects, while PDS has announced tenders or architectural competitions for others.
