Prague - The Prague city company Technical Administration of Communications (TSK) has selected a firm to carry out the first part of the reconstruction of the Barrandov Bridge. It will concern the lower part of the structure and the restoration of six pillars. As the ČTK found out from the public procurement bulletin, the work worth approximately 63.3 million crowns will be carried out by the companies Eurovia CS and Freyssinet CS. The bridge, which is part of the Prague ring road and sees 144,000 cars daily, is in poor condition overall. Its total repair is expected to cost 600 million crowns.
The bridge was built between 1978 and 1988. The first part of the reconstruction should last until the end of next year. The work will be coordinated with the reconstruction of Modřanská street, which runs under the bridge towards Modřany, and some pillars are located on it. Others end in the Vltava river. According to previous information, this year's work will not affect traffic, but next year partial restrictions will concern Modřanská.
The restoration of the lower part of the structure will involve repairing the concrete of the pillars with repair mortar or possibly special coatings. In the second phase of the repairs, which will likely begin in 2022, a complete reconstruction of the load-bearing structure and the Barrandov and Modřany exit ramps will take place at a cost of more than half a billion crowns. During the reconstruction, there will always be two lanes open in each direction. The work will be divided into two parts, with one ramp closed during each part. The bridge measures over 340 meters and has eight lanes and two sidewalks.
Prague has had long-term problems with the condition of its bridges. At the beginning of December 2017, a footbridge between Císařský Island and Troja collapsed, injuring four people. Several bridges over the Vltava, in addition to Barrandov, such as the Libeň and Hlávka bridges, Legií bridge, and Palacký bridge, are also in poor condition.
