Prague – The City Hall of Prague 8 will create a working group that will negotiate with the municipality about the future development of the Invalidovna housing estate. Representatives of local residents will also be able to participate. The council of the municipal district will subsequently discuss the next steps. This was decided today by the representatives of Prague 8. They originally discussed creating an urban study but have temporarily stepped back from that. The Invalidovna housing estate is located on the eastern edge of Karlín and was built between 1959 and 1967.

"The Invalidovna housing estate is one of the development areas, and there is no concept for its development. We would like a concept to be created for the entire area. I would like us to have some binding document that sets clear rules," said opposition representative Václav Stránský (8žije), who proposed discussing the development of the housing estate on the agenda. He described the current approach to development as "predatory."

Stránský initially demanded that the municipal district commit to creating a study. However, according to representative Radomír Nepil (ANO), its preparation would be unrealistic because it would not be completed before the new Metropolitan Plan comes into effect, which is expected to start from January next year. He argued based on the study for Palmovka, which took about four years to prepare.

Representatives from all parties eventually opted for the option of creating a working group. Its members will include not only representatives from all parties but also local residents. The city hall leadership promised that the Invalidovna issue would be added to the agenda of their next meeting.

There are several development projects planned for the extensive area of Invalidovna. Construction is proposed for part of the area falling under the Checkie Karlín complex, with houses along Sluncová next to the railway line, and the National Theatre also wants to build workshops here.

Local citizens attended today's council meeting. One resident stated that the development of Invalidovna and construction are currently random and chaotic. Another criticized some of the projects that investors are planning here. Others wanted the city hall to consider the opinions of residents when making decisions about the area. Councillor Tomáš Hřebík (TOP 09 and STAN) promised that the city hall would engage in discussions with the residents.
