Brno - The Brno-střed municipality wants to utilize a neglected land left by the army on Lerchova Street, which has been lying unused for years. Once, it was intended to be developed by the company Wilson Property, but that plan fell through and legal disputes ensued. The municipality has now terminated the lease agreements for this area of 6,500 m² with two military buildings. The land is now back under the administration of the office, and they want to explore possibilities for its utilization with the citizens. This was stated to reporters today by the deputy mayor of the Brno-střed district, Michaela Dumbrovská (KDU-ČSL). They will present it to the public on March 17.

The municipality will organize a meeting with citizens from whom they want to obtain suggestions for the utilization of the area. It is likely that a building with a shop and apartments will be constructed on this site. "We don't have a clearer idea yet. What is certain is that we won't be able to afford such a project, and it won't be possible without obtaining subsidies," said Brno-střed councilor Svatopluk Bartík (ŽTB) to ČTK.

The company Wilson Property has not yet taken a clear stance on the termination of contracts. "First, we will familiarize ourselves with the legal opinion of the office in detail, we will have our analysis done, and if we find that the contracts are valid, we will proceed accordingly," said the company's manager Michal Wiedermann today to ČTK. He emphasized that if the company incurs damages, it will demand compensation from the Brno-střed municipality.

The representatives of the district municipality do not yet have even a rough idea of how the space could be utilized and what the investment amount would be. Bartík emphasized that he does not expect legal disputes with the current tenant of the area. Legal analyses of the lease agreements stated their absolute invalidity, the councilor mentioned.

Brno acquired the former military land in 2003 through a gratuitous transfer from the state on the condition that it would not be commercially utilized. However, in September 2006, the Brno-střed municipality signed lease agreements with Wilson Property, which was supposed to build a multifunctional building on it. It later turned out that the contracts were disadvantageous and invalid. The former mayor of the Brno-střed district, Dagmar Hrubá (ODS), was punished with a suspended sentence for signing the contracts. However, she denies any wrongdoing.
