Brno - The Constitutional Court (ÚS) has postponed a complaint against the decision whereby the government approved the purchase of the pig farm in Lety near Písek. This means that the complaint did not meet the formal or substantive requirements that would allow for its consideration. ČTK learned this from an overview of plenary proceedings on the ÚS website.
Complaints directed against government resolutions are exceptional in the agenda of constitutional judges. In this case, the writer was Bohumír Rada. The court informed him of the postponement of the complaint via letter, thus concluding the proceedings.
The resolution was approved last year by the then coalition government of Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka (ČSSD). During the war, Lety was a concentration camp primarily for Roma, and a memorial site is to be established there now.
The proposal for the purchase was submitted to the cabinet last year by the Ministry of Culture, led by then Minister Daniel Herman (KDU-ČSL). According to the resolution, the state is to pay the company Agpi 450 million crowns.
The state will also cover the demolition of the pig farm, including the removal of environmental burdens and reclamation. Funds from Norwegian grants will be used for the construction of the memorial itself.
In the summer, the Museum of Romani Culture, which took over the area, plans to set criteria for the artistic-architectural competition for the design of the future memorial site and visitor center.
