The construction of the Judiciary Palace in Brno and the preparation of this investment were overpriced, according to the Supreme Audit Office (NKÚ). It cost nearly three times more than it should have. According to the budget for the project documentation, construction costs exceeded two billion crowns, while the Ministry of Justice originally estimated costs at 768 million crowns. NKÚ informed ČTK about this in a press release today. The construction was organized by the Regional Court in Brno. According to NKÚ, mistakes were made even in the preparation of the construction, such as the fact that the investment plan was not elaborated in alternatives. As a result, for example, the site was located on land that required a financially demanding method of foundation construction, stated NKÚ President František Dohnal in the report. According to the office, the designer prepared the documentation for the construction without paying much attention to economy. He proposed that demanding solutions and expensive materials be used in the construction. Part of the price increase, according to NKÚ, is attributed to the expansion of the project - the areas of offices, workrooms, meeting rooms, and conference halls increased by about 12 percent compared to original expectations. However, the approved costs of the project were increased by approximately 139 percent by the time of the completion of the NKÚ's inspection and amounted to over 1.8 billion crowns, the office's report states. Although the Ministry demanded cost-saving measures, it only did so when it became clear that there was not enough money for the entire construction. However, according to NKÚ, the Regional Court did not accept all the proposed savings. The Judiciary Palace in Brno is the largest construction investment in the judiciary in the region. The building on Heršpická street is to house the City Court in Brno, the District Court Brno-Country, and the City Prosecutor's Office in Brno.
