Prague – The Štvanice footbridge, which will connect the Prague districts of Holešovice and Karlín, will open on Friday, July 28, at noon. This was announced on social media by the mayor of Prague 7, Jan Čižinský. Construction of the bridge started last January. It will make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to reach Štvanice Island and will also connect the urban areas. Until the bridge is completed, a ferry service will be provided; its operation will cease afterward. The bridge is approximately 300 meters long and its cost is around 300 million crowns.

On the Holešovice riverbank, access to the bridge will be from Bubenské nábřeží in front of the entrance to the Prague Market. In Karlín, it will lead to the bike path along the flood barrier. The bridge will span 38 meters between Karlín and Štvanice and 149 meters between Štvanice and Holešovice. The bridge has five pillars, two of which are on Štvanice, two in the Vltava River, and the last one in Karlín.

Currently, people can only walk from Karlín to Holešovice via the busy Hlávkův bridge or via a detour through Rohanský Island and Libeňský bridge. They can only access Štvanice from Hlávkův bridge or the ferry. The bridge will also serve as a link for cyclists, as it will connect the main bike paths on both banks of the Vltava River.

In 2020, Prague opened a new bridge from Císařský Island to Troja. The original bridge collapsed at the end of 2017.
