Svitavy - Svitavy will continue with interior renovations after the completion of the exterior repairs of Langer's villa. So far, the city has spent approximately 40.5 million Czech crowns on the reconstruction of this cultural monument, with most of the funds coming from its budget. The remaining outdoor work next week includes installing a gate on the access road.
"We still have renovations to do inside the villa. Just as the entrance staircase has already been repaired, we will continue work on the hallways and ceilings inside the building," said Mayor David Šimek (Association for the City of Svitavy). Costs are estimated at four to five million crowns, and the work will take several years.
In previous years, Svitavy gradually had the facades restored, including the windows, and landscaping done around the building. The most recent modification is the outdoor painted ceiling over the terrace facing the park, featuring drawings of swallows.
The villa was designed by Brno architect Germano Wanderley. During the economic crisis of the 1930s, the family had to sell their businesses, and they transferred the house with the park and surrounding land to the Svitavy savings bank. Since 1933, the villa has been rented by the city, and in 1942 the town hall purchased the villa.
For this year's 130th anniversary of the villa's completion, which received the title of Monument of the Year for the Pardubice Region in 2021, the city has prepared an extensive program for the third weekend of September. Due to this event, the roundabout on the state road in front of the building will be closed on Friday. Visitors can look forward to four video projections and light shows, performances by musicians, theater performances, and lectures on the villa and 19th and 20th-century architecture.
