Uherské Hradiště - The Uherskohradiště Hospital today opened a new central pavilion. Several departments have moved into it, which were previously located in facilities that no longer met standards. The pavilion will begin serving patients at the beginning of November, said the hospital director Petr Sládek during the opening. The construction cost 400 million Czech korunas, and the hospital took out a loan that will be repaid over 20 years. The equipment worth 70 million korunas was financed by the hospital itself, while the Zlín Region as the founder paid 105 million korunas for new infrastructure. The five-story building has 120 standard and 28 acute beds. There will be 72 doctors and 320 healthcare workers working there. The departments of surgery, orthopedics, traumatology, urology, ENT, and ophthalmology have moved into the new building. It also houses intensive care units, anesthesiology-resuscitation beds, central operating rooms with central sterilization, and a new pharmacy. According to Sládek, the consolidation of several departments into one building is more comfortable for both patients and doctors. "Patients will be in rooms of two, not four or five; the facilities are modern, there is air conditioning, and for doctors, modern operating rooms. It is a significant leap for both sides," noted the director. The new building replaces a building from 1928, which initially served as an internal medicine department and later as a maternity ward. The oldest building in the hospital complex was demolished in 2011, and the construction of the central building began in July 2012. The public will be able to view the new building on Saturday, and the relocation of departments from the original premises will begin on October 22. According to the director, the logistics are planned out. "The patient will certainly realize that we are moving them, but it should not affect the care," he remarked. The old buildings where the departments were still located will be gradually demolished, said Lubomír Nečas (SPO), the deputy governor responsible for healthcare, today to ČTK. According to him, the pavilion system of hospitals is already outdated; it is more convenient for both doctors and patients when departments are concentrated in one location. Further investments should now be prepared especially in the Vsetín hospital, where a new internal medicine department is expected to be built next year. The Uherské Hradiště Hospital is also planning to construct an internal medicine unit. "We want to work on the project next year; the entire hospital complex would be reduced and made more efficient," said Sládek. The complex currently consists of 15 buildings. The Uherskohradišťská Hospital was the only one of the four hospitals established by the Zlín Region that operated at a profit last year, totaling 6.5 million korunas. Overall, the regional hospitals ended up with a record loss of 270 million korunas, with the Zlín hospital being in the worst condition. By mid-year this year, the Hradiště hospital operated at a profit of over seven million korunas.
