inadequate shelters. The oldest stops are expected to be renewed, with work starting on Monday, June 8, spokesperson of the city hall Jana Fričová said today.
Jablonecká dopravní provides urban transport in Jablonec and its surroundings, and started the replacement of stops last year when they replaced the first 15 shelters for 4.2 million crowns. According to director Luboš Wejnar, the current work will be more demanding. Some of the stops awaiting replacement have been serving passengers for over 40 years. "The new shelters will offer greater comfort, better protection from adverse weather and a modern appearance that meets current requirements for urban furniture," added Wejnar.
The city management decided to renew the stops last year in connection with the expiration of a ten-year contract with EuroAWK. The shelters from this company are being gradually replaced with the Aureo model series made of steel and security glass, which should ensure long durability and resistance to vandalism. EuroAWK also had billboards and illuminated advertising showcases around the city, which disappeared from the streets after the contract ended.
The glazed roof of the new shelter is capable of reducing sunlight due to a special treatment, creating a pleasant climate for passengers. "We paid special attention to bird protection. All the glasses of the waiting areas are fitted with a screen print designed specifically for Jablonec nad Nisou. This way, the stops will prevent birds from colliding with the glazed surfaces," stated Petra Hušková from the architecture office of the Jablonec city hall earlier. According to her, the arrangement and frequency of the motifs on the glass were consulted with the Czech Ornithological Society.
The project does not just mean a simple replacement of old shelters for new ones, but also involves other often extensive construction work. "The higher costs compared to 2025 are mainly due to the demolition of the original concrete structures and their foundations," said Wejnar. For instance, at the stop "Housing Estate Janovská", the shelter is entirely made of concrete, and work will start there on Monday. "During the construction, there will be a temporary shelter at this stop," added the director.
Jablonec Technical Services will demolish the old stops next week, and in the following week, the company EGOE will begin preparing the foundations for the new waiting areas. The actual assembly of the shelters will start about a month later, and concurrently, the technical services will adjust the surfaces of the stop pavements, including paving and asphalting. "Construction work may temporarily bring certain restrictions, and we will do everything possible to minimize their impact on passengers," added Wejnar.
