Klášterec nad Ohří

Klášterec nad Ohří – Klášterec nad Ohří in the Chomutov region has selected an architectural study for the development of the Evženie Spa. The study envisions the construction of a modern facility for accommodation and spa operations with a capacity of up to 200 beds. A project will be prepared for the initiative in the near future. Estimated costs exceed 300 million crowns, said Mayor Štefan Drozd today to ČTK.

"A project will soon be prepared that could be completed including the building permit by the beginning of next year. Then we will see which way we will go. The Design & Build method proved successful for the construction of the cultural center, where the selected company provides the project and then carries out the construction, which would be faster," said the mayor. If the town hall selects one company for both the project and construction, they could start building in 2025. The construction work is expected to last about a year.

The city's goal is to elevate local spa services and focus them on therapeutic rehabilitation care. They are working on the initiative together with the Priessnitz Spa in the Jeseníky Mountains. The local carbonated mineral springs are among the highest quality waters in the Czech Republic. They are suitable not only for drinking cures but also especially for external use, such as baths.

The study proposes a timeless and modern building with a capacity of 200 accommodations, featuring a restaurant, lobby bar, balneo facility, hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, massages, a gym, fitness area, medical offices, and a recreational terrace. The spa house will serve not only spa guests but also offer outpatient services that local residents can utilize. The building will be barrier-free, and will also include photovoltaic panels and green roofs. Parking capacity will be ensured by underground parking and adjacent areas in front of the building. Adjustments to the adjacent park are also planned.

The precise construction costs will only be determined once the project documentation is complete. Current estimates range between 300 and 400 million crowns. The city will contribute a smaller portion to the investment, while the remainder will be provided by the Priessnitz Spa. Together, they will seek grants, but according to the mayor, a similar program has not yet been announced.

The town hall has been striving for the development of spa services for several years. The beginnings of spa services in the town date back to the 19th century when the first healing spring Evženie was discovered. According to the mayor, the current facility hardly functions as a spa. It offers 40 beds, primarily providing wellness and some spa services for short-term stays.
