Litomyšl (Svitavsko) - Most likely, next spring in Litomyšl in Svitavsko, the first work on the construction of a new church of the Brethren Church will begin. The modern building, with an avant-garde appearance, is set to rise by the I/35 road towards Svitavy, between the traffic light intersection and the road to Čistá. Jana Macková from the Brethren Church told this to journalists today.
In addition to all the permits currently in the phase of territorial proceedings, the church needs to raise a total of 20 million crowns. It has received approximately 1.5 million crowns from donors and expects a state subsidy of 2.5 million crowns.
"I am not afraid that we would not raise the money. We have obtained approximately 550,000 crowns in interest-free loans, which will be repaid by the donors," said Macková.
The impetus for the construction of the church building is the unsatisfactory state of the current prayer hall. The design does not resemble traditional churches, as it does not include any tower; the religious purpose of the building is only evident from the cross placed on the eave of the roof. The study by the architectural firm Fránek Architects proposes a glass structure sunk into a green slope. The building is meant to symbolize the journey of faith.
"I was a bit afraid of it, but in the end, about 70 representatives from the city and the church agreed on the final form. It was a small miracle," Macková said.
The exterior of the building is to be vandal-resistant, made of exposed concrete, wire glass, and fine mesh. The hall will accommodate 150 people. Interested parties can follow the progress of the project on the website www.novykostel.cz.
The Brethren Church has built new churches and prayer halls in the Czech Republic in recent years, for example in Nové Město nad Metují in Náchodsko, in Poděbrady in Nymbursko and in Pardubice.
