In Pardubice, an extensive reconstruction of the Summer Stadium has begun

Pardubice – A costly reconstruction of the Summer Stadium in Pardubice has begun, costing approximately 380 million crowns including VAT. Currently, modern non-original structures are being demolished, as part of the stadium is historically protected. The first work has started on the western stand.

"In part, we are waiting for the expressions from the heritage conservationists. All modern additions are being removed to reach the core of the original structure from 1930," said Jiří Macháně from the development and strategy department of the Pardubice City Hall to ČTK. Workers are demolishing non-original partitions, ceilings, and modern installations.

The construction company is to repair and modernize the stadium without the eastern stand, surrounding streets, and embankments. After the reconstruction, the stadium will have a capacity of 4,600 spectators. The stands will not be connected into one unit; in the future, it will be possible to extend them and increase the number of spectators to approximately double.

For the tender to select the construction company, Pardubice chose the Design & Build method, where the selected company also does the design. The result was a reduction in the price of the work compared to expectations; however, the winning proposal significantly deviated from the project that Pardubice had developed years ago for 13 million crowns. Compared to that, the stadium will be considerably simpler.

The repairs are crucial for the football club, which last year qualified for the first league after 51 years. According to the conditions of the football association, construction work on the stadium must start this year.

The stadium dates back to 1931 and was built according to the design by architects Karel Řepa and Ferdinand Potůček. The reconstruction project does not include the Warrior's Gate, which is historically protected. The current capacity of the stadium is 600 spectators.
