Vsetín - The Vsetín City Hall plans to renovate Lower Square, which the city leadership considers to be in poor condition. The city aims to obtain grants for the renovation, estimating the costs at 80 to 100 million crowns, the city hall informed ČTK in a press release today.
"Lower Square is in a deplorable state after twenty years. The company that poorly renovated it back then soon went bankrupt. Reconstruction is inevitable, and therefore this study proposal was created. The city emphasized the necessity of maintaining the passage for public transport through the square and the non-reduction of green space," stated Mayor Jiří Čunek (KDU-ČSL). The authors of the study, architects Milan Chlápek, Petr Osička, and Libor Sošťák, presented the proposal to the public.
The renewal is expected to include structural and base layer repairs and the replacement of paving on sidewalks and roads. "The comfort for public transport passengers is also taken into account. One of the adjustments will be the relocation of bus stops in both directions to locations where their shelter can be ensured," stated city hall spokesperson Jana Raszková.
The study includes the felling of trees proposed by dendrologists, as well as the planting of new greenery and the installation of raised perennial flower beds. The planting of conifers, which could serve as a Christmas tree in a few years, is not excluded. Underground retention tanks filled with rainwater from rooftops will be used for the irrigation of plants. According to the study, improvements could also be made to water features, and waste containers are to be underground.
"The grant title for the revitalization of the square has not yet been announced; however, we are working intensively to be prepared for its announcement and to obtain funds from it. During the public discussion, we recorded many interesting suggestions, which the authors of the study will further work on," Čunek stated. If the city does not receive the grant, it will at least repair the paving in the square.
