Jablonec nad Nisou – The facilities at the Jablonec dam will now be in modular wooden structures. Marek Přikryl from the Prokš Přikryl architects studio succeeded in the architectural competition for the city with this idea. The Jablonec dam should have a unified appearance and better facilities by the summer of 2022 at the latest. The city estimates the costs to be between eight and ten million crowns. This was announced to reporters by the deputy mayor for city development, Petr Roubíček.
The dam is a popular swimming spot not only for the residents of Jablonec but also attracts people from a wide surrounding area. On hot days, up to 5,000 people head there daily. However, the facilities are inadequate and varied, and this is expected to change. If all the necessary permits for construction can be secured in time, they would like to build the new structures next year after the end of the summer season, according to Roubíček. "If everything doesn't get done in time, there is still room at the beginning of 2022, in spring, to get it finalized and ensure it is ready for the next summer season,” Roubíček stated.
The structures will be created from individual modules measuring 6 × 6 meters, which can include a kiosk with refreshments, sanitary facilities, changing rooms, seating areas, or storage. They will rise on the southern shore, in the location of U Prutu near the Mšeno housing estate, and opposite in two bays by the swimming pool and parking lot. According to Roubíček, four structures will be created with three to a maximum of nine modules. This could still change during the creation of the project documentation, which will be prepared by the author of the winning design.
Five offices applied for the architectural competition, and the jury was most impressed by Přikryl's design. "The basic connecting element is the support facilities, which are modular, repeatable, with a clear structure, operation, and a sealable protective envelope, clearly defining day/night, open/closed, or summer/winter,” Přikryl noted in his proposal. The modules are to have a lightweight wooden, easily repairable structure.
The Jablonec dam has had its dam crown repaired since this year. The work costing 19 million crowns took place from last September to this November. The Elbe River Basin repaired the damaged structural layers of the dam crown and also the protection against the infiltration of rainwater, thus extending the lifespan of the waterworks. The surface layers of the roadway and sidewalks, including railings, have also been repaired, and the visible stone blocks on the dam crown have been newly re-jointed.
