Brno - After a long illness, the significant Brno art historian and architecture expert Jan Sedlák passed away on Sunday. He was 73 years old. Sedlák was a recipient of the City of Brno Prize in architecture for the year 1996 among other awards, and he often wrote about famous villas. His death was reported today by his wife Alice Sedláková to ČTK. The date of the last farewell is not yet known.

Sedlák worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Brno University of Technology. He also previously served as the dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts. He studied at the School of Applied Arts in Brno and then pursued the history of art at the Faculty of Arts in Brno.

In the past, he specialized in various areas, such as the influence of Parler in Moravian architecture, the works of painters Paul Gauguin and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and the Baroque giant Jan Blažej Santini.

Later, he consistently focused on Art Nouveau and architectural modernism, particularly that of Brno. He repeatedly published works on Villa Tugendhat and, as an author and editor, also addressed other famous villas.
