2050+ is an interdisciplinary agency: in our studio, we meet with various professions (architects and designers, but also chefs, researchers, sociologists, and video creators), because we believe that the contamination of fields is the only way to do meaningful work today. The 2050+ project, founded in 2020 by Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli (former partner of the office of OMA) and which brings together people who have spent most of their professional lives outside Italy (for example, in Rotterdam, London, or New York), is based in Milan, Italy, a city commonly associated with extensive and rapid actions (such as Design Week or Fashion Week). In an effort to move away from the assumptions of these formats, 2050+ views Milan as a concentration of current and future challenges (climate change, migration, mass tourism, urban development) – thus as an ideal plan for exploring the conditions on the planet. The lecture at VI PER will be an opportunity to present a selection of projects that 2050+ has conceived and designed over the past four years – projects that mobilize curatorial and research practices, exhibition design, and architecture to address topics related to politics, technology, and environmental issues. Erica Petrillo is a curator and journalist focusing on political philosophy and social sciences. She currently works in Milan, collaborating with the interdisciplinary agency 2050+ while also working on several independent projects. She has collaborated on public programs and exhibitions for various cultural institutions in Italy and beyond. These include the R&D Salons series at MoMA in New York, Broken Nature at the 22nd Triennale di Milano, Open, the Russian pavilion at the 17th Venice Biennale of Architecture, and Babel, the 13th edition of the Video Sound Art Festival.
