In December, we have the last lecture of the year from the series on contemporary Nordic architecture, in which we will present the work of the progressive Danish studio Johansen Skovsted Arkitekter. The lecture titled “Handy”, which will conclude the 20th year of the association's activities, will take place in a live broadcast
on the Facebook page of the Kruh association on Thursday, December 3rd from 19:30.

The Danish office Johansen Skovsted Arkitekter was founded by two architects, Søren Johansen and Sebastian Skovsted. The studio represents Copenhagen's progressive architecture and has achieved significant recognition over the years. The architects have received both national and international awards, including the AD Design Award 2018, a three-year work grant from the Danish Arts Foundation 2017, and their project in the Skjern River basin was shortlisted for the Mies van der Rohe Award 2017.
The work of the Danish studio testifies to a strong vision and autonomous architecture. “We strive to bridge the gap between contemporary building processes and materials and fundamental architectural values,” the office representatives add. They design objects and buildings inspired by primal forms, influenced significantly by both vernacular architecture and anonymous industrial structures. They approach the context of the site with respect and show interest in local building techniques.

Recent projects, such as the reconstruction of a gas station on the Skjern River and building elements in the Tipperne bird reserve, are examples of their sensitive approach to the heritage of buildings and nature. The construction interventions in the landscape materialize their sculptural approach to space, as can be seen, for example, at the bird observatory in Tipperne. The undulating concrete facade of three reconstructed pumping stations on the Skjern River refers to the surrounding furrowed fields. These stations have become a popular visitor spot with exhibition spaces, indoor and outdoor observation points, and multipurpose halls.

Furthermore, the office focuses on projects for community centers, cultural buildings, and also family houses, such as the reconstruction of an old holiday cottage in the protected landscape area of Blåvand in Denmark. Johansen Skovsted Arkitekter sees architecture as a medium for playing with landscapes, buildings, and cities, along with the entire history that accompanies it.

We will broadcast the online lecture of the Johansen Skovsted Arkitekter studio on Thursday, December 3, 2020, from 19:30 on the Facebook page of the association KRUH.
