Vladimír's bookstore Serius and the civic association PLAC cordially invite you to the jubilee 40th lecture in the cycle "Printed Architecture". This time, on Friday, June 23, 2017, at 6:30 PM in Jablonec nad Nisou, we will welcome architect, actor, writer, and popularizer of architecture David Vávra. The lecture will focus on the book Running with Houses, which was published this year on the occasion of the author's sixtieth birthday and presents David Vávra's projects, drawings, and visions in an engaging style similar to that found in the books Three Paths to Architecture and We're Going to the Sea. David Vávra (*1957) studied architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague, the Prague Academy of Fine Arts, and completed an internship in Paris. Together with Milan Šteindler, he co-founded the theater Sklep in Prague in the 1970s. From 1985 to 1989, he worked as a designer at the DRUPOS cooperative, and since 1990, he has been running his own studio together with Kateřina Vajčnerová, Robert Daňek, and others. From 1986 to 1990, as a member of DNA /Workshop of the Most Modern Architecture/, he participated in the Urbanity 86, 88, and 90 exhibitions. In 1997, he received the Special Prize for Interior of the Year with František Skála for the restoration of Akropolis, in 2004 the Grand Prix of Czech Architecture in the category of Artistic Work in Architecture for the installation of the statue of Franz Kafka in Old Town, Prague, and in 2008, he was nominated for the Old Prague Club award for a new building in a historical setting for the Footbridge with the Observation Tower in Cheb. In addition to his architectural practice, he engages in the popularization of architecture. He is known as a co-author and knowledgeable guide for the television series Shumná města and Shumné stopy. He also acts as an occasional poet, especially on festive occasions. The lecture is held with the support of the Czech Architecture Foundation.
