Jihlava wants a new exhibition in the historic Silver House, will apply for a grant

Jihlava – The City Organization Brána Jihlavy aims to bring the history of the city closer through a new exhibition with audiovisual technology at the Silver House. They will apply for a grant for it. The goal of the project, estimated to cost around 1.2 million crowns, is to increase the utilization of the potential of this historic building in Masaryk Square, especially its cellar spaces with Gothic vaults. This was stated to journalists today by Deputy Mayor Richard Šedivý. The plan could be implemented by January 2028.

The city completed the renovations of the building two years ago. The new name Silver House recalls the history of the former royal mining town associated with silver mining. Equipment from a 13th-century mint was also found there. An investment of 80 million crowns was made possible for the city by a grant from the so-called Norwegian funds.

For the planned new modern exhibition with projections on the walls, the city organization Brána Jihlavy will apply for a grant in the European Interreg program, which supports cross-border cooperation between the Czech Republic and Austria. The contribution, according to the city's expectations, could cover four-fifths of the project's costs. Its partner will be a museum in Lower Austria.

The valuable house in the city conservation area has been owned by the city since 1907. Its floors were last divided into apartments by renovations. The city's reconstruction of the building has been ongoing since 2021. Archaeological finds were placed in the Gothic lower part of the house. In addition to Brána Jihlavy, the building now houses the studio Jihlavský architektonický manuál and the Center for Documentary Film.
