Pelhřimov – The reconstruction of the former Vysočina department store in Pelhřimov will begin, according to Deputy Mayor Zdeněk Jaroš (TOP 09), no sooner than in 2028. The city is currently negotiating a contract with the selected project documentation processor. The winner, OTA atelier, won the architectural and urban planning competition, which had 29 participants.
The former department store on Solní Street, which is located 200 meters from Masarykovo náměstí, was purchased by Pelhřimov in 2023 for 48 million crowns. It could provide facilities for contributory organizations and local associations. It currently partially serves commercial purposes.
"Whether we like it or not, the department store will have to be completely emptied, including the lower ground floor, because the construction will be large. The estimated investment costs were around 200 million crowns," Jaroš said.
According to the Mayor of Pelhřimov, Ladislav Med (ODS), the competition proved to be the right solution as it sparked interest from many architectural firms. "A number of quality proposals were submitted, which made the selection of the winner quite challenging. I am pleased that we were able to select a solution that best meets our expectations. By announcing the results, we have taken another important step in preparing for this significant investment," Med stated.
The city allocated a total of 900,000 crowns for the awards of the competition proposals. The winning proposal includes an extension of the building and new entrances for the basic art school or community centers. The ground floor will continue to be used for commercial purposes.
The public could express their opinions on the shape of the building, which is intended to become a municipal services house, through a city survey. The town hall plans to present the competition proposals in September at an outdoor exhibition.
