Marek Nedelka (3rd year) - Three Brothers for Dolina

studio of Ing.arch. Radka Suchánek, PhD., Ing.arch. Dott. Petr Janoš and Ing.arch. Vladimír Balda
A possible path for Špania Dolina is development through small, targeted steps. An undeniable advantage of the village is the beauty of the surrounding nature and the village itself. The problem is that the village does not know what to offer. I want to bring active families with children, sporty groups of friends, creative people, intellectuals, and seekers to the village. I have called it active and self-discovering tourism. My solution to how I want to achieve this involves three small structures that are closely related to my primary intention of extending the nearby cross-country skiing route Šachtičy - Donovaly. I believe that in the person of a cross-country skier (in summer a walker, cyclist), all the mentioned groups intersect. My three proposed structures - brothers are connected to the phenomenon of cross-country skiing. When I use the word brother, it is not by chance. The structures are interconnected not only programmatically but also in terms of construction and architectural elements. The black-painted shingle facades, the structural grid, and the carpentry-jointed roofs make them brothers. And above all, they are all located along the same route.
The first structure is the spa house. The building stands by the mining pond, in the valley between the heap and the hill on which the church stands. The spa house is axially symmetrical. It looks like two black heavy wings of a raven that wants to take off from the valley. This is partly due to the fact that I bring water into the building through the middle, which fills two small pools and a shower, and partly because of the two large windows, one respectfully looking at the heap, the other humbly at the church. Two dominant features of Špania Dolina. The structure is divided axis-wise into a sauna and pools, which are heated by wooden therapeutic stones.
The second structure is the hunting lodge. Hunting lodge from the word to think, to ponder. It stands on the hill by the heap. In terms of structure, it is a tower that serves as a long-term rentable space for creative individuals who decide to leave the city and work on their new book or CD in peace, in the heart of Slovak nature. They can venture into the hills for inspiration, look from the large window at their workspace on the third floor, or make use of the spa house. The structure contains everything a person essentially needs.
The third structure is a dormitory. It is a house partly embedded in the slope by the heap, similar to the hunting lodge. It is a structure that is axially symmetrical in all three directions. It has a concrete lower floor where people sleep and an upper wooden floor for communal evenings of friends, fathers with children who came to teach their children how to "cross-country ski."
I really wish that people who will return would start coming to the Valley. People who will notice the beauties of the Small Fatra, exchange life experiences with the locals over a beer in the pub, and regain their lost energy. The current architecture in the Valley should be an intermediary of the qualities of this beautiful place.
