Prague - The expert jury selected 15 buildings in the Czech territory, from which the Building of the Year 2016 will be chosen at a ceremonial evening on October 13. Among the nominees are, for example, the Blanka tunnel complex, the reconstruction of Kuks, the research center in Dolní Břežany, the Sky Trail in Dolní Morava, or the modernization of the railway line Tábor - Sudoměřice. The organizers from the Foundation for the Development of Architecture and Construction informed ČTK about this today.
"A special feature of this year is the very diverse character of the buildings, a great variety in their size, and the significant rise of the BIM (Building Information Modeling) system, which has been used in more than 20 percent of the buildings," said Jan Fibiger, chairman of the foundation's board. BIM is a digital model that serves as a database of information about the project throughout its entire life cycle, including the period of its use.
"For this reason, for the first time this year, three special nominations will be announced, one of which will be the Special Prize for the use of BIM in the preparation and realization of buildings. Three nominations will also be announced for foreign buildings that represent a high level of Czech expertise abroad," he added.
All nominated buildings can be found on the website stavbaroku.cz. People can vote for the Public Prize there until October 13.
In last year's edition, the jury awarded the winning projects of the Komenského Bridge in Jaroměř, the completion of the elementary school in Dobřichovice, the underground complex at the Old Town Square in Mladá Boleslav, the extension of the Bolt Tower blast furnace in Ostrava, and the restoration of buildings at the Hlubina Mine complex there.
