Prague – The Town Hall of Prague 5 will announce an architectural competition for the design of a hall for holding weddings and cultural events in Sacré Coeur Park in Smíchov. As decided by the city council, the hall will be smaller than originally planned, accommodating about 100 people. In addition to the large hall, the building should include a café and a gallery. The town hall is also preparing an outdoor pavilion in the park, which could serve for continuing wedding ceremonies.
The hall is expected to be located in the eastern part of the park, which is on a slope between Holečkova and Kartouzská Streets. According to a document approved by the council, the ceremonial hall should have a capacity of about 100 people, with 40 to 60 seats. The leadership of the town hall originally planned a hall for up to 500 people, but this was found to be financially burdensome and detrimental to the park.
Before announcing the competition, the town hall must select its administrator. The rules should be based on the competition regulations of the Czech Chamber of Architects. The estimated construction costs, according to the approved document, are between 60 and 80 million crowns, while the competition itself, including rewards for the authors of the three best designs, is expected to cost between 1.5 and 2 million crowns.
The town hall's leadership has already selected a design for the pavilion that will also be built in the park and will complement the ceremonial hall in the future. Out of three designs, the council selected the one by designer Denisa Kubíčková Strmisková last week, for which the city district has commissioned the completion of project documentation, expected to cost around 300,000 crowns. The chosen design combines a tiered concrete pedestal with a roof made of orange glass and a granite access path.
Currently, the city district uses the ceremonial hall on Stroupežnického Street, but according to the municipal leadership, it is not sufficiently representative.
According to data from the Czech Statistical Office, Prague 5 had over 88,000 residents at the end of 2019, encompassing Hlubočepy, Košíře, Motol, Radlice, Smíchov, and parts of Jinonice, Malá Strana, and Břevnov.
