Shell invites all architecture students and graduates to participate in the “Gas Station of the Future” competition, held on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of its presence in the Czech market.
The objective of the artistic-architectural competition is to gather the views of students and graduates of architecture and related fields on mobility and the design of gas stations in the year 2052.
Participants will need to materialize their ideas about the appearance and functions of a gas station in 2052 in their graphic submissions. Participants may submit their proposals no later than March 15, 2022.
The jury will consist of employees from Shell.
“In the 30 years of Shell's operations in the Czech Republic, transportation and drivers' demands have changed, as have the services offered at gas stations. There is a significant increase in vehicles with alternative drives on the roads, such as LPG, CNG, and electric vehicles. In addition to e-mobility, LNG and hydrogen station networks are also developing worldwide. All these factors influence how infrastructure and services at gas stations adapt. For example, charging an electric vehicle takes an average of 20 minutes. Drivers want to make efficient use of this time, whether by shopping in the store, enjoying snacks, or working over a delicious coffee. We also note an increase in customers whose primary purpose for visiting is not fuel, but rather the purchase of basic groceries or snacks. When establishing corporate strategies, we consider expert analyses on how mobility and target customers will look in the future. Will we even be driving combustion engine cars in 30 years? And will the number of visitors for whom the gas station serves more as a café on the go increase? In these internal discussions, we are interested in how students and architecture graduates view this topic,” says jury chairperson Jana Voštinárová, who is the External Communications Manager for Shell in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
