Las Vegas

Las Vegas – Less than four years after authorities in the U.S. state of Utah dealt with a mysterious metal monolith placed in the desert, a similar phenomenon has occupied the police in neighboring Nevada in recent days. On a hill north of Las Vegas, a shiny monolith of unknown origin was discovered. Today, they announced that they had removed the object, which was installed illegally in a nature reserve.

"It remains unclear how the object got there or who might be responsible for it," the Las Vegas police department stated on the social network X.

The column, about two meters tall, was found by police on a mountain ridge near the summit of Gass Peak last weekend. They described it as a three-sided prism made of metal sheet, standing on a concrete base. Photos shared online show how the surrounding landscape was reflected on its surface.

This is a continuation of a series of such cases that remain unexplained. Similar monoliths have appeared in California, New Mexico, and also in Romania. It all apparently started in November 2020 when a shiny metal monolith nearly four meters tall was found in a remote area of the Utah desert. At that time, authorities did not immediately reveal its exact location to prevent people from flocking to the area.

Such considerations led the Nevada police to dismantle the latest monolith on Thursday, as reported by the AP agency. The object was illegally installed in the Desert National Wildlife Refuge, which is home to bighorn sheep and a threatened species of tortoise. The police urged visitors not to stray from marked trails and not to leave any items behind in the area.

The removed monolith is now being stored by the police in an unknown location.
