Brno - Activists from the Nesehnutí movement have collected the necessary 400,000 crowns to file a lawsuit against the update of the Brno zoning plan. Hana Chalupská from the Nesehnutí movement told ČTK today. According to her, the amount will be used for legal services, as estimated by the lawyers who are preparing the lawsuit and will represent the movement. The activists want to file the lawsuit with the Regional Court in Brno by the end of October. Deputy Mayor Ladislav Macek (ČSSD), who was responsible for preparing the changes, is not afraid of the court. He considers the update to be correct and beneficial for the city. The document was approved by Brno city councilors in June. Activists and also, for example, the Green Party criticize the document for allowing construction in parks and backyards or legalizing illegal buildings. Nesehnutí has been collecting money since September 8. "We had about 100,000 before the campaign started, and the remaining 300,000 came from people. We reached out to those who submitted comments and objections at the beginning of the year regarding the update," said Chalupská. Approximately 2,000 comments were acknowledged by the municipality, while roughly the same number were disregarded due to insufficient formalities. "The money came from 499 individuals and 11 businesses," Chalupská stated. The money will be used for legal services in the first-instance proceedings. "The costs were estimated by lawyers back in August. The amount is for the hours of work spent on preparing the indictment, up to the court's ruling. We are represented by the Environmental Law Service Frank Bold, which has already succeeded with dozens of zoning plans," Chalupská noted. According to her, some aspects of the update are good, but on balance, the negative aspects prevail. "They harm the city as a whole, and that's why we want the court to annul the entire process and for the city to discuss a new update," added Chalupská. The activists and the Greens criticize the plan for favoring developers and certain landowners. Deputy Macek has previously rejected this. "The update favors no one; we developed it for the benefit of the city. I believe it will hold up in court," Macek told ČTK. The update of Brno's zoning plan changed a 20-year-old plan. The city council responded to the current needs of the city until a new zoning plan can be created.
