Brno - The city council in Brno-Jundrov is investigating whether the local residents wish for further development. They have sent out a survey form where people can select which of the proposed options for the new zoning plan is closest to their preference. The councilors will then take the results into account when drafting comments on the proposal, said mayor Ivana Fajnorová (Green for Jundrov) today to ČTK. The boldest option proposes to newly build apartments and houses over 70 hectares in Jundrov. The district currently has nearly 4,000 residents, which would double the population.

The largest area available for development is the current Juranka garden colony, where building plots could be created on 67 hectares. The architect Jaroslav Dokoupil, who is drafting the zoning plan, recently referred to the area as a beautiful location. "If developed for housing, it offers above-standard living close to the city in a very nice environment," he stated. However, he admitted that the problem is the difficult accessibility of the location, as there isn’t enough space to establish a wide enough road for public transport buses to travel on.
Current residents of the district are already discussing transport complications. "Children are currently driven to the only school mainly by their parents in cars. The traffic around the school is increasing," said one local resident, Martina Veselská, to ČTK. She reportedly fears letting her daughter go alone because of this. She is not enthusiastic about the prospect of further growth in Jundrov. "We moved to Jundrov eight years ago partly because of the peaceful living environment. We were looking forward to it being like a village," she added.
On the other hand, people who own land in Jurance are inclined toward development. They also point out that part of the gardens there is not maintained by anyone. According to opponents of the new development, these are gardens that were purchased by developers and speculators in the hope of future opportunities for construction. There is a scarcity of building plots in Brno, and prices range from one thousand to 6,000 crowns per square meter. For gardens, they are about a third of that.
