Brno - Brno is looking for a designer for the Janáček Cultural Center wedding. The designer's task will be the spatial solution of the building and the concert hall itself, said hall spokesperson Kateřina Konečná in a press release today. According to Brno's mayor Petr Vokřál (ANO), selecting a designer is another important step toward construction. The Janáček Cultural Center will be built at the corner of Besední and Veselé streets for almost 1.3 billion crowns. It will offer 1,250 seats. The city aims to start construction of the hall at the end of next year.
The deadline for submitting applications is June 27. "The designer will propose the spatial solution for the interior of the building, such as changing rooms, offices, rehearsal rooms, common areas, as well as the hall itself, its shape, size, layout of seats, soundproofing, materials for cladding, and so on," Konečná stated.
According to her, the documentation team should consist of experts and authorized persons. "It will not consist only of designers and architects, but primarily of experts in acoustics," she said. The city requires that the designers have experience in designing concert halls, as well as in constructing large buildings and projects in heritage zones. "We have signals that experts from several countries, not just European ones, are interested in the project," said Marie Kučerová, the director of the Brno Philharmonic, which will find its base in the Janáček Cultural Center. More than a hundred members of the Brno Philharmonic are playing and rehearsing in inadequate conditions.
The winner will be decided by a professional committee. The composition of this committee is not yet clear, but one of the members could be the new city architect Michal Sedláček. "After the qualification round, there will be a competitive round in which the project's price will decide," Konečná stated. In the meantime, according to her, work will be done on dividing financing between the city, the region, and the state.
Initially, garages for nearly 200 cars will be built at the site. If no problems arise, the construction of the hall could seamlessly follow the construction of the garages.
