Brno – Brno wants to build a new bridge in the coming years between the former Zbrojovka complex and the Zetor Motor Plant. An urban planning-architectural design competition will be held, and the results are expected next spring, said the mayor's deputy Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL) to reporters today. The estimated costs are more than 220 million crowns, which will be partially covered by private investors who have plans for both complexes. The existing bridges in the area will remain.

The council today approved the investment plan for connecting both parts over the Svitava River, and the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno will prepare the conditions for the competition. The bridge will connect the city districts of Brno-north and Brno-Židenice. "It will be 53 meters long and 28 meters wide. It will offer four lanes, two for cars and two for trolleybuses," Hladík stated. A bike path and a sidewalk will also be included.

The design of the bridge will be subject to an urban planning-architectural competition. "The competition conditions will be published immediately after our approval, during November. The deadline for submitting design proposals should run until the beginning of February," said councilor for urban planning Filip Chvátal (KDU-ČSL).

According to Hladík, the last time such a large bridge was constructed in Brno was 60 years ago. "We consider the selection of a designer through an architectural competition to be the best and most transparent way to obtain not only a quality design but also a partner with whom we will subsequently sign a contract for the preparation of further stages of project documentation," Hladík added.
