Brno - The people of Brno can vote until mid-April on the design of housing in the residential part of the former Zbrojovka complex. They can view six proposals for the part of the former factory that borders the Svitava River on the project's website or at the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno. This was stated in a press release by Jakub Velen, spokesperson for the site owner CPI Property Group.

The zone, which the developer refers to as number four, is the second largest area in the former factory complex. "The area is located near the river, has a southwest orientation, and is the farthest from the railway. This predisposes it exclusively for residential purposes," said Zdeněk Havelka, executive director of CPI Property Group. People have already been able to vote on the design of three parts of the area, the most recent being the central part at the site of the former boiler house with a tall chimney.

For zone 4 designated for housing, architects were tasked with creating a neighborhood with various types and standards of housing. In addition to specific proposals, people can also vote in a survey this time. "We would like to verify what type of housing people would actually welcome here," added Havelka. After publishing the proposals for all six zones, the investor wants to take into account the opinions and reactions of the people.

Currently, work is underway on the reconstruction of the former tool shop in the northeastern part, which will serve administrative purposes. The first tenants could move in by the end of the year.

The area of the former Zbrojovka is a twenty-hectare brownfield in the Židenice area. Its redevelopment began with demolitions in 2017 and will proceed in phases over probably more than ten years. Out of 100 buildings, only four will remain, and the site will become permeable and accessible from multiple sides. Currently, it can only be accessed from Lazaretní Street. In the future, around 10,000 people are expected to find housing here.
