Brno - The city of Brno will purchase the building for the new centralized building authority on Orlí Street from Czech Post for 215 million crowns. The city council approved the purchase today, said the spokesperson of the magistrate, Filip Poňuchálek, in a press release. The decision to relocate building authorities from the city districts into one central office was made by the city representatives at the end of last year. The building authority is set to operate in the former post office building starting July 1.
"I am very pleased that Czech Post has given the green light for the direct sale of its three administrative buildings located at Orlí 30, Orlí 32, and Benešova 8 to the city for the price of 215,180,000 crowns as determined by a valuation," said the councilor for property Jiří Oliva (SOCDEM). The city aims to relocate not only the building authority to the buildings near the magistrate but also some other officials who currently have to use commercially rented spaces. "We will also save on future rents. A significant bonus for citizens is the operation of postal services by the city at Orlí, operating under the Partner Post regime. In one building, people can handle both official and postal matters," Oliva added.
According to the director of the branch network, Martina Ivanová, Czech Post had no other operational use for the buildings in the city center. She also considers it significant that a Partner Post operates there.
The city expects to transfer the properties into its ownership by the end of July at the latest. Until then, it will remain in the building as a tenant, and from April, it will be modifying the spaces there. Workers are painting the walls and replacing the floors, while IT specialists are working on data connections. City representatives have already approved tens of millions of crowns at their previous meetings for necessary repairs, office equipment, and the purchase of official vehicles.
