Olomouc – In the abandoned Hanácké barracks in the center of Olomouc, a Regional Assistance Center for Helping Ukraine will begin operations from the start of next week, which has been in operation since Tuesday in the building of the regional office near the train station. The regional government has agreed with the Office for Representation of the State in Property Affairs (ÚZSVM), which manages this vast property, on the use of the Hanácké barracks. Regional Governor Josef Suchánek said this in response to a query from ČTK today.
Spokesperson of ÚZSVM Michaela Tesařová told ČTK that the staff of the regional assistance center will only use a part of the Hanácké barracks, where they will find facilities for their administrative activities related to helping refugees from Ukraine. According to Tesařová, there are currently no plans for the Hanácké barracks to be used for their temporary accommodation.
The Regional Assistance Center for Helping Ukraine started operating in the building of the regional office on Tuesday morning and has already provided assistance to hundreds of people fleeing the conflict in Ukraine. It operates 24 hours a day. The center's services are mainly used by women and children.
"Refugees can register at one place, report to the health insurance company, and apply for asylum. At the same time, there are workers available who can provide them with medical assistance, psychological support, information about accommodation, food, and contacts for employment offices,” Said Suchánek. People fleeing the war from Ukraine also have two emergency phone lines available: 771 235 570 and 771 235 571, which operate continuously.
So far, the state has not succeeded in selling the Hanácké barracks. The fourth electronic auction also ended this week without a winner. The state will not announce another round of bidding due to the use of the building for the assistance center for Ukraine.
