Olomouc - No one registered for today's electronic auction of the Hanácké barracks in the center of Olomouc, and the auction was canceled for this reason. The state has thus failed to sell this extensive property even on its fifth attempt. The Office for Representation of the State in Property Matters (ÚZSVM) will prepare another round of electronic auction. In this auction, which was supposed to end on Thursday at 10:00 AM, the minimum price of the Hanácké barracks was reduced from 249 million to 248 million crowns. The price for the next round will be decided yet. Michaela Tesařová, spokesperson for ÚZSVM, announced this today to ČTK.
The Hanácké barracks were used by the army for 170 years and have been vacant since 2013. Although a prospective buyer registered in time and deposited a fee in the previous four auction rounds, they did not make a bid, so the auctions had no winners. The Olomouc Region, together with the Olomouc town hall and Palacký University, expressed interest in the monumentally protected property some time ago. However, experts pointed out the poor technical condition of the Hanácké barracks and the high costs of renovation. Therefore, the regional council canceled its previous resolution in January that opened the way for self-governments and the university to obtain the Hanácké barracks free of charge.
The Olomouc Region wanted to use the building of the Hanácké barracks mainly for science, culture, and education, primarily through the Museum of Regional History in Olomouc or the Archaeological Center Olomouc. A creative center, social counseling center, material and food aid center, Family Point branch, and regional volunteer center were also planned to be established in the premises. The town hall wanted to relocate some of its departments that do not have high attendance to the building of the Hanácké barracks.
The building has office space of over 2,000 square meters. Initially, it was considered that hundreds of employees from state offices currently located in various places in Olomouc would move there. However, according to the Ministry of Defense, further use for state officials would be more expensive than selling and possibly building a new administrative headquarters.
The Olomouc Region expressed interest in the barracks building as early as 2014, wanting to create storage for the museum and library or offices there. The regional administration ultimately abandoned that plan. The repair of the monumentally protected building will be expensive. According to an estimate from 2020, it would cost about 815 million CZK, and construction costs and materials have risen significantly since then.
