The auction of the barracks in Olomouc once again has no winner, the state will negotiate with the university

Olomouc – No winner emerged from the second electronic auction for the sale of the Hanácká Barracks in Olomouc. The auction started on Tuesday and ended today, but the only registered interested party did not place a bid. Michaela Tesařová, spokesperson for the Office for Government Representation in Property Affairs (ÚZSVM), told ČTK. The second round of the auction was announced after Palacký University abandoned its intention to purchase the complex directly. The state will contact the university again. The Hanácká Barracks were used by the military for 170 years and have been empty since 2013; any further use for state officials would be more expensive than selling and possibly constructing a new administrative headquarters.

The minimum price for the Hanácká Barracks was set at 262 million crowns in the second round of the auction as well. "One interested party registered for the electronic auction and deposited the required collateral within the specified deadline, however, no bid was placed during the auction. Based on previous discussions, ÚZSVM will again reach out to Palacký University, which had previously expressed preliminary interest in the direct purchase of this complex. In any further negotiations, ÚZSVM will again propose the price announced in the second round of the selection procedure," Tesařová stated.

In the first round of the selection procedure, only one interested party registered at the beginning of September, but they also did not place a bid at that time. Afterwards, ÚZSVM negotiated the sale of the barracks with Palacký University, which showed interest in the extensive property in the center, but its management ultimately changed its mind. Foreign investors were interested in the Hanácká Barracks.

The building of the Hanácká Barracks has an office area of over 2000 m². It was originally considered that hundreds of employees from state offices, currently located at multiple sites in Olomouc, would move there. However, the Ministry of Defense stated that any further use for state officials would be more expensive than selling and possibly constructing a new administrative headquarters.

In 2014, the Olomouc Region expressed interest in the Hanácká Barracks, wanting to establish storage facilities for the museum and library, offices for organizations handling European subsidies, and a store for regional foods. The regional administration ultimately abandoned the plan.
