Bohdaneč Spa (Pardubice) - Bohdaneč Treatment Spa today reopened the Gočár pavilion after more than a year. The previous management closed it last January due to poor technical condition and a decrease in clients, but the new management decided to carry out repairs in the middle of the year, which began in October. The building, designed in the cubist style, was created by the renowned architect Josef Gočár, and the first spa guests have already moved in, said Jiří Vitík, the executive director of the Bohdaneč Treatment Spa, to reporters today.
"From an architectural perspective, this is our most valuable pavilion, and in the future, we hope it will undergo a complete reconstruction in the spirit of cubist architecture," Vitík stated.
So far, the spa has repaired the pavilion's roof, plumbing elements, and windows, replaced water distribution, waste systems, sanitary equipment and electrical installations on the first floor. The spaces have been freshly painted, new flooring has been installed, a WiFi network has been established, and there are televisions in the rooms. The costs amounted to about four million crowns. The original cubist paintings on the ground floor are still awaiting restoration.
The Spa Pavilion was officially opened on May 1, 1913. The author designed not only the exterior but also the complete interior of the building, including furniture, chandeliers, and painting. In 1926, the pavilion underwent its first reconstruction, during which a second floor was added to increase bed capacity, but it did not completely retain the original cubist character. The pavilion was also affected by renovations in the mid-1960s, during which the ground floor, including the entrance hall, was insensitively remodeled.
The ceremonial symbolic opening of the spa season is planned for May 3 this year. The Bohdaneč Treatment Spa specializes in the treatment of the musculoskeletal system and nervous diseases. They utilize unique peat deposits with peat that is estimated to be 4000 years old. As the only spa in the Czech Republic, they use peat through wrap baths. Another therapeutic source is mineral water, an alkaline effervescent water used in hydrotherapy, pool exercises, and other spa procedures.
