Prague - The Board of the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) has been tasked with examining a variant of the metro line D route from Pankrác to the Písnice Depot with only these two stations. The remaining stations would be completed after the route is operational. The information was confirmed to the CTK by councilor Petr Dolínek (CSSD). The reason is the lack of land, which DPP is unable to purchase in time. The goal of the assignment from the supervisory board is to find out if the transport company could build the route in this way. Metro D is intended to connect the city center with the southern edge of Prague. When construction will start is still unclear.

“The goal is not to wait. We must start building, or it will never start, and it will continue to be postponed,” said Dolínek.

The city is working with the company on three construction variants. The first is to build the entire route with all stations, the second is the one mentioned with two stops. The third variant discusses construction such that all stations that can be built would be created, and the remaining ones would be completed later. Which variant will be chosen is still unclear. The variant that the route could go a different way than currently planned is not very realistic. The route is included in the zoning plan, and a change would delay its construction by several more years.

Due to the missing land, the option of expropriation is also on the table. “Legally, this step is prepared, but I have respect for the owners. Expropriation is therefore only a last resort that I would prefer not to resort to,” Dolínek said.

Metro D is designed to relieve line C and connect housing estates in the south of Prague with the city center. The route goes around the Krč train station and the Thomayer Hospital through Nové Dvory to Písnice. The city has been preparing the new route for several years, and where it will lead towards the center is not definitively decided; it is most often said that it will end at Míru Square.
