Prague - The first fully excavated metro station D is Olbrachtova. The Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) completed it on the first section of line D Pankrác – Olbrachtova, construction of which began in April 2022. Excavation at the Pankrác station on line D continues, with completion expected in the second quarter of 2026. The company announced this in a press release today. The progress of work on the southern vestibule of the Olbrachtova station will allow the reopening of the closed section of Na Strži street with one lane in each direction from mid-December.
Excavation of the Olbrachtova station began on February 17, 2023, and DPP has now completed it according to schedule. "During the construction of the station, contractors excavated a total of 61,160 cubic meters of spoil, used 1,156 tons of steel reinforcement, 19,878 cubic meters of sprayed concrete, and more than 13,800 cubic meters of cast concrete for secondary lining," said DPP spokesman Daniel Šabík.
In the first section of line D, all track and technical tunnels have been fully excavated, including the link between lines C and D. The Olbrachtova station is completed, including both escalator tunnels leading to the future northern and southern vestibules.
Excavation is currently continuing at the Pankrác D station, and according to Šabík, less than 16 percent remains to be completed. This concerns the so-called central partial excavation and part of the abutments and floor of the left partial excavation for the escalator tunnel leading to the future vestibule in the administrative building Gemini, he stated. According to him, the other technical and escalator tunnels have already been excavated by the builders.
At the same time, the builders are installing waterproofing layers in the specified areas, constructing the final lining of the tunnels, and preparing the station vestibules. In addition, workers are constructing the transfer between lines C and D and modernizing the Pankrác C station. "Approximately 71 percent of the final lining of the first section of line D is already completed," Šabík stated.
The completion of the load-bearing structures of the southern vestibule of the Olbrachtova station will allow the reopening of Na Strži street between the intersections with Antala Staška and Olbrachtova streets with one lane in each direction, in the original left lane towards the city center, from mid-December. "This will reduce the construction site of metro D at the intersection of Na Strži and Antala Staška streets, facilitate the traffic situation in this part of Prague 4, and improve traffic flow," said the transit company.
Construction of the new metro line began in 2022. The builders are constructing a kilometer section between the Pankrác and Olbrachtova stations, and the second section from Olbrachtova to Nové Dvory will follow. Furthermore, they will build a section from Nové Dvory to the Písnice Depot. The construction of another section between Pankrác and náměstí Míru is planned, with a long-term vision to extend the line to náměstí Republiky.
