Brno - The station hall in Brno-Královo Pole is set to be demolished in July. Construction work, which will significantly limit transport between Brno and Kuřim, is also expected to begin at the start of the summer holidays, the General Director of the Czech Railways Administration, Jiří Svoboda, told reporters today. Although the reconstruction of the station and adjacent track sections began in December, passengers have not yet felt much impact.
Due to the demolition of the building, the Czech Railways Administration is preparing alternative facilities for passengers and railway staff. The waiting rooms will have a capacity for approximately 250 passengers and will be similar to those that served at Brno's lower station in previous years.
Transport restrictions will be necessary primarily due to the reconstruction of one of the two tracks to Kuřim. "Given the volume of traffic and the number of passengers, we decided not to replace trains with buses. However, travel times will be extended," Svoboda said. Instead of the usual 15 minutes, the journey to Kuřim will take about 30 minutes. Svoboda added that the most significant restrictions are expected to end with the beginning of September 2025.
After the completion of the construction, there will be a new station building in Královo Pole, new barrier-free accessible platforms, and a passage under the station leading to Myslínova Street. The Czech Railways Administration will pay three billion crowns for all construction work.
