Brno – The long-awaited reconstruction of the train station in Brno's Královo Pole will begin in November and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The Railway Administration (SŽ) will build a new dispatch building for nearly three billion crowns, renovate the track layout, and the adjoining sections, announced SŽ spokesperson Dušan Gavenda in a press release. A modern transfer terminal will be created in Královo Pole to connect train traffic, public transport, and suburban bus services. It will replace the current form of the transfer hub from the 1980s, when the area in front of the station building was overshadowed by a road viaduct.

The railway managers have selected a consortium of four companies that will participate in the reconstruction. "The modernization includes the construction of a new station building, which will also be part of the adjacent transport terminal. It will be a glass-fronted, partly two-story building. On the ground floor, there will be ticket counters, commercial spaces, and social facilities. In the middle of the hall, there will be escalators leading to the elevated part with benches for passengers, and there will be additional commercial spaces. During the construction period, a temporary waiting room for 250 people will provide facilities for the public," said Gavenda.

The current building dates back to the 1950s, when the current line between Brno and Havlíčkův Brod was put into operation. It is oversized for current needs. The new building will be accessible, just like the access to the platforms. The underpass will be wider, and a passage will also be created to the opposite side of the station to Myslínova Street.

The station's track layout will undergo a fundamental renovation, with new platforms being constructed that can be accessed not only by stairs but also by elevator. A section of the track from Brno-Maloměřice to Kuřim will also be reconstructed. A new information and orientation system will be implemented not only at the Královo Pole station but also at the Brno-Lesná, Brno-Řečkovice, and Česká stops.

SŽ is drawing money from both the State Transport Infrastructure Fund and European Union funds.
