Prague - Czech Post has so far received three official offers for the purchase of the Prague building at the corner of Jindřišská Street and Politických vězňů. It demands a price based on appraisals, which amounts to approximately 1.4 billion crowns. Some offers are unrealistic. The postal service informed about this today in a press release.
Since last year, the company Knight Frank has been advising the postal service on the sale of the so-called main post office building. According to the company's spokesperson Matyáš Vitík, it still stands that this property in the center of Prague is redundant for Czech Post's further operations.
The chairman of the ANO movement, Andrej Babiš, who is currently negotiating as a likely future prime minister regarding the formation of a cabinet, called on the outgoing government in his video message today not to sell the building on Jindřišská Street for one billion crowns. He also noted that the cumulative loss of Czech Post amounts to five billion crowns.
According to Vitík, the Supervisory Board of Czech Post is regularly informed by the management about the incoming offers. The Supervisory Board requests this information based on its statutes. The founder of Czech Post, the Ministry of the Interior, is informed through the Supervisory Board. The management submits all offers for information, including those that are, according to the spokesperson, apparently unrealistic at first glance.
"If the sale of the property were to occur, it would only be with the care of a proper steward at a price corresponding to the price derived from the expert opinions. The funds acquired would be used as a crucial investment source for the modernization of Czech Post. If these conditions were not met, neither I nor anyone from the company's management would sign the sale of this valuable property,” stated the General Director of Czech Post, Miroslav Štěpán. According to him, the sales process is not closed and does not have a fixed final deadline. Jindřišská is still owned by Czech Post.
Last year, the postal service operated with a loss of around 1.25 billion crowns, which is half a billion more than a year earlier. This year, the loss is expected to decrease to below one billion crowns. This summer, it offered surplus properties for sale for one billion crowns.
