Prague – No interested party registered for the purchase of the main building on Jindřišská Street in the center of Prague from Czech Post. The starting price was 1.538 billion crowns. Similarly, there was no buyer found for the postal building on Moravská Street in Vinohrady with a starting price of 62.4 million crowns. Matyáš Vitík, spokesman for the postal service, said this today.

Interested parties for participation in the tender had to register by December 20; otherwise, they could not submit envelopes with bids. The deadline for submission was January 9. "We are currently addressing the legal aspects of the next steps. We continue to expect to sell the complex this year," said Vitík. According to him, the postal service will also negotiate with the Prague city hall, which has shown interest in the buildings and had the opportunity to match the highest bid in the tender.

The branch of the main post office is to be preserved even after a possible sale, and the new owner will have to enter into a lease agreement with the postal service for it, as well as for some other parts of the building. Currently, among other things, the management of the company is located in the building.

The building was constructed between 1871 and 1890, with its first major reconstruction taking place between 1896 and 1899. Another significant renovation occurred between 1912 and 1920 to 1921. This also influenced the property valuation, which was the basis for calculating the starting price. From 1996 to 1999, builders completed a comprehensive reconstruction of the property.

By selling real estate, the postal service is trying to stabilize its finances. In 2022, it ended with a loss of 1.7 billion crowns and the company expects a decline for the previous year as well. Within two years, the company is to transform into an operator of branches and a commercial package service.
