Prague - Czech Post has offered two buildings for sale in Prague for a total starting price of 328 million korunas. For sale is a building on Preslova street in Smíchov and the former international post office building on Plzeňská street. The space on Preslova street is offered for 168 million korunas, while the space on Plzeňská is priced at 160 million korunas. The post office announced this in a press release today.

"We expect that a branch will continue to operate in the building on Preslova street. The other spaces are unused, so we decided not to keep such a large property, pay its overhead costs, and we are offering the building for sale. The same applies to the property on Plzeňská street. Until the beginning of this year, the international post office was located here. The spaces were inadequate, and parking for clients was an issue. The new international post office is located in Štěrboholy in Prague, and there is no longer any use for Plzeňská," said post spokesman Matyáš Vitík.

Both buildings will be offered through an electronic auction. Interested parties can register for it until December 1, and the auction itself is scheduled for one week later.

The post office is offering for sale a number of properties and land that it has historically owned and for which it no longer has use today. In the past, it sold, for example, land with a garage in Žihli in the Plzeň region for 65,000 CZK or the former St. Gabriel Monastery complex in Prague's Smíchov for 353 million korunas. The contract was signed here in January 2020. Among other significant properties that Czech Post has previously sold were buildings in Prague's Opletalova street for 133 million korunas or currently a building in Brno at the main train station for 117 million korunas. A purchase contract for the latter is pending a signature.

Czech Post has been operating at a loss for the past three years. Last year, due to the coronavirus, it deepened its loss by one billion to 1.382 billion CZK. It had planned that the decline would be an additional 400 million korunas higher. The state covers the costs for the basic services provided to the post office up to 1.5 billion CZK.
