New Jicin - A historical lift and original sliding doors from the period of the First Republic were discovered in the attic by workers who are reconstructing the kindergarten located in the heritage-protected Hückel Villa in New Jicin. Both constructions were covered by a board and plaster, so for decades no one knew what was hiding behind the wall, informed the spokesperson of the New Jicin town hall, Marie Machková.
Another department for children is being built in the kindergarten on Revoluční Street. Due to this, the workers are repairing the roof and reconstructing the attic. In the process, they came across the lift and doors from the time when the family of the hat factory owners had construction modifications made in their residence from 1898. "The city, along with heritage conservationists, is striving to preserve and restore the discovered structures," said Machková.
The lift still has the hardware on the veneered doors and the control panel. The sliding doors, which slide into a cavity in the wall, also have, according to the spokesperson, a decorative profiled frame and a remarkable sliding mechanism. "These are valuable historical structures that demonstrate the period level of construction, the artistic craftsmanship of the time, and taste," stated Marie Bartošová from the National Heritage Institute in Ostrava in her statement.
