Nový Jičín - Nový Jičín is preparing to repair one of the city's most valuable buildings, the so-called Old Post Office from 1563 located in the main square. For more than 2.6 million crowns, the facade, roof, and interiors will be renovated. This was said by Marie Machková, spokesperson for the Nový Jičín city hall. The renovation is expected to begin in June.

The Renaissance house has been preserved practically in the form in which it was built in the 16th century by the mayor Ondřej Řepa. According to the city, the building with two-storey arcaded loggias on the first and second floors is a unique example of advanced Renaissance architecture in the urban environment of the Czech lands.

"A major reconstruction occurred in the 1970s when office spaces were established in the attic. Today, this building houses the City Cultural Center," said the spokesperson. The building hosts the Exhibition Hall Old Post Office, the Galerka club, and the Coffeemusicbar. The center will remain operational during the renovation.

"As for the exterior of the building, the plaster will be removed. We expect that most of the heterogeneous parts will be along the entire perimeter of the building. Then, the plumbing elements will be repaired or replaced, the trusses will be painted, the roof will be repaired, and regarding the interior, the internal plaster, floors will be restored, some windows will be refurbished, and doors will also be repaired,"
described the renovation Machková.

Approximately 500,000 crowns should be contributed to the reconstruction from a grant from the Ministry of Culture. "The structural and material solutions are subordinate to the artistic and historical value of the building. The construction elements will be subject to that," said investment technician Michal Hub.
