On June 16 and 17, 2016, Prague will once again host the highest concentration of world experts in the fields of architecture, urbanism, city planning, and landscape design for the fifth time. Visionaries, experts, mayors of significant metropolises, and representatives of extraordinary civic initiatives will offer innovative solutions and ways for cities in Europe and the West to successfully and painlessly cope with the influx of new residents at the Prague Forum Karlín. The professional conference will be accompanied by a rich program for the general public in Prague's public spaces. And reSITE will again bridge the gap between experts and ordinary residents: a love for the city and the desire to create a better place to live for the next generation is a common driving force. Tickets are on sale, most advantageously until February 15.
Every city is formed by migration. Into one. All cities on the planet experience intercultural, international, national, intercity migration, from the peripheries to centers, or within the city itself. It always impacts urban space. However, the current wave of immigration affecting Europe has revealed a profound difference between the practical experiences of Western European countries and those of new EU member states with this fact. That is why Prague is the right place for this grand topic. “The question of migration and its impact on urban space is one of the greatest challenges of our generation. We will face it head-on. reSITE 2016 will answer how,” invites Martin Barry, founder and director of reSITE, a landscape architect, adding: “Migration is a natural process and a source of new opportunities, not a reason for concern. Better than perceiving the future through a prism of fear is to prepare for it and know successful solutions.”
Cities prepared to absorb changes The conference will focus on architecture, urban planning, public space, and transportation solutions that can successfully and sustainably integrate new residents. How will public policy, developers, interpersonal ties, and civic activities contribute to successful solutions? Together with the most progressive thinkers from around the world, we will discuss how design, urban planning, politics, finance, and shared values can enhance the quality of life and create more resilient and competitive cities.
Ticket sales have begun, currently the most advantageous reSITE has already launched registration for conference participants. Tickets are available in three price categories: for professionals, non-profit sector, and discounted tickets for students. Until February 15, a special offer of 2 tickets for the price of one is available for the fastest purchasers, and until February 28, a 15% early bird discount can be applied.
Support reSITE, support quality architecture reSITE is preparing a professional and passionate team that will continue to actively engage with current events in the Czech environment, especially in the capital. We appreciate all journalists and editorial teams that devote their space and time to issues of sustainable urban development and contribute to spreading innovative ideas. On the occasion of the upcoming conference, we anticipate a significant participation of journalists from neighboring countries, and therefore we will be compelled to limit the number of accreditations issued for representatives of Czech media. In case of an oversubscription of requests, we will take into account the long-term interest in topics related to urban development. reSITE: about us reSITE is a non-profit platform that supports the understanding and interactions of urbanism, politics, culture, and economy in a world of ever-growing cities. It presents insights and projects from internationally recognized experts to a broad professional and lay audience. For the fifth year, reSITE invites world leaders in urban planning, architecture, and urban development, along with political leaders from inspirational cities, to Prague. reSITE is not a closed conference; it brings a variety of accompanying events, discussions, film screenings, exhibitions, and cycling tours aimed at the general public. Founded in 2012 by landscape architect Martin Barry originally from New York, the program director of reSITE is architect Osamu Okamura.
