Jihlava - The Vysočina Region intends to reconstruct the agricultural buildings in the northern wing of the castle complex in Nové Město na Moravě in the Žďár district, where the Horácká gallery is located. After the renovation, the building is to be used as a depository for Škrdlovice glass and sculptures. Project documentation should be created next year. The reconstruction, valued at 16 million crowns, is expected to be completed in 2020. The regional councilors decided today to include the repair in the project pipeline.
The building, which is a cultural monument listed in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic, is in emergency condition. Previously, only the outer façade was repaired, including window replacement, which took place in 2009. “Among other things, a complete replacement of the roofing and engineering networks is absolutely necessary,” said Governor Jiří Běhounek (for ČSSD) to reporters.
The ground-floor northern wing of the agricultural buildings of the castle currently serves as a temporary storage facility, it is neither heated nor climate-controlled. At several locations, an emergency state of the structures has been identified. In connection with the repair in 2009, the collection items were moved out and have not returned due to unsatisfactory conditions. Since then, the gallery has temporarily been using part of the main castle building for their storage.
If the reconstruction of the northern wing takes place, it will significantly contribute to the overall appearance of the gallery. The renovated spaces will create a depository for storing part of the collection - glass and sculptures, which are temporarily located in the main building of the castle complex. A portion of the sculpture exhibition featuring works by Karel Pokorný and Josef Mařatka will return to these freed spaces, and the visitor circuit will be restored.
