Czech Těšín - The Těšín Theatre today reopened its observatory and rooftop terrace after renovations. Both spaces are a new part of the Těšín Theatre and Cultural Centre (TDKC). They will offer not only stargazing but also chamber cultural programs, concerts, author readings, film screenings, and workshops. This was stated to ČTK by the theatre's spokesperson, Zuzana Martinčík Glacová.

The Těšín Theatre is the only one in the Czech Republic that has an astronomical dome. However, it will no longer serve as a real observatory, as the original astronomical equipment has been removed. Stargazing will be possible with the aid of portable telescopes and a projector. The newly opened rooftop terrace, with a capacity of up to 60 people, will host concerts, author evenings, thematic lectures, and sky observations. The observatory will offer an intimate space for 38 visitors and will enable the organization of theatrical performances, screenings, workshops, or presentations.

"The theatre is typically a place where the audience experiences a strong moment during a performance. But here, a space has been created that lives constantly. People can come here for culture, for meetings, for inspiration, and for simply stopping and looking at the night sky," said the director of the Těšín Theatre, Petr Kracik. The evening's patron, actress and host Tereza Kostková, appreciated the poetry of the entire project and the connection of culture with the atmosphere of the starry sky. "It is beautiful when culture does not remain just on the stage," she stated at the grand opening.

Part of the opening is an exhibition by photographer Martin Podžorný, which offers visitors images of the night sky and cosmic scenes. The exhibition was created specifically for the Těšín Theatre. The first event for the public will be on the rooftop terrace on May 31.

The extensive renovation of the Těšín Theatre was completed last December. It lasted 18 months and cost 139 million crowns. The result is the creation of the creative TDKC, which combines professional theatrical operations, educational programs, and community activities.

The Těšín Theatre in Czech Těšín was established in 1945. The Polish scene was added six years later. The puppet stage Bajka has been part of the theatre since 2008. The Těšín Theatre is the only professional theatre in the Czech Republic that includes three artistic ensembles performing in two different languages. This is related to the strong Polish minority in the Těšín area. Many prominent actors such as Květa Fialová, Bořivoj Navrátil, and Josef Somr have passed through the theatre.
